Hellooooooo Team!
Welcome to the Kinda Weekly Bugler! It’s been a rock solid couple of weeks of running and racing. I know it can be tough to get up in the dark, but it has been a rare opportunity of late to run in the romantic morning moonlight. Bryan nearly had me holding his hand on Tuesday as we punished ourselves on the bay run, and a full moon floated above. With the windless, crisp mornings, we should make the most of these last couple of weeks of daylight savings – clocks go back on the 6th of April.
The words on everyone’s lips (especially fans of the rom-com TV series, Game Of Thrones) are that “Winter Is Coming..” So make the most of the sunny days while you can!!
We’ve added some fantastic web content to the RLC site. Take a look below and if you have more stories you’d like to contribute, then please send them in.

Rockin RLC Gear
You’ll have seen a number of people getting around in slick RLC merchandise. It was a somewhat arduous journey to get our Saucony kit printed up for the weekly Bull Parade, but we finally got there. And the pay-off has been the devastatingly swift reduction in stock! We’re already requesting additional singlets, but do have a number of Men’s & Women’s tops on the shelf, so please hit us up at training, or fire me – Tristan – an email and I’ll arrange a fitting.
Recent Events
Six Foot Track 45km – Blue Mountains, Sat 8th March

Kilcunda-Wonthaggi Half Marathon – Kilcunda, Sat 16th March
Racers – Drew Thomson, Mel Deefholts, Steve Jacobs, Kathryn Aitchison, Tristan Miller
Who’da thought Kilcunda would be a tough place to run?? With a half marathon recommended as part of the GOR marathon program, a number of our runners headed down past Phillip Island for a swing at this local fundraiser 21km. Great to see Stu & Johnny, from our gear partner Saucony, down to sponsor the event and getting people into ripper new shoes. With the famous Magnus Michelsson sitting on the front of the race, the winner was a forgone conclusion.
The rest of us battled it out, trying to keep a steady pace along the wide, sandy beach side walking track. The run wasn’t too bad – until the 13km turnaround… For the last 8km, runners were battered by the back beach headwind. It broke a few people, but not our team, who finished with excellent results all round:
Kathryn Aitchison – 2:04
Drew Thomson – 1:58
Mel Deefholts – 1:50
Steve Jacobs – 1:49
Tristan Miller – 1:30 – 3rd Place Overall! Not too many races where you’ll steal 3rd place with that time.. But we’ll take it!

Coast 2 Coast Double Half Challenge!?!
Good friends, Steve Jacobs (Melbourne based) and Kathryn Aitchison (Perth based), not only pumped their way through the Kilcunda Half, but flew back to Kat’s hometown of Perth that afternoon to have a crack at a second half marathon on the Sunday. With plenty of training under their belts and a few questions around Steve’s Saturday beer consumption, the team had a seamless transition across the nation and managed some cracking second leg times at the Darlington Half Marathon. Congrats Steve & Kat!
Kathryn Aitchison – 1:58
Steve Jacobs – 1:40
Why, you ask?? “Just a good laugh with my great mate”, Steve replied.. Well played Sir.

They’ve been smashing out the long rides, biggish swims and some super fast runs – with us!

RICHMOND
After a stellar start, Richmond has had a slight dip in attendance. This will be partially as a result of race weekends and belated sunrises. We’d love for you to tell your friends about the sessions Coach Scotty is running there. He has enviable access to The Tan and probably the best post run cafe available.
Sessions – Tuesday & Thursday 6am to 7am
Meeting Point – Melbourne High School Old Boys Pavilion – Corner Claremont St & Yarra St, South Yarra
Email – scotty@runlikecrazy.com
SOUTH MELBOURNE
It was a hectic couple of weeks around Albert Park Lake with the F1, so the MSAC crew was absorbed by the MHS Mavericks. It was nice to get back there this week, especially with the beautiful mornings bayside. The race calendar is looking pretty wild in the next few weeks, but we hope that more runners will return to the Bayside Bangers home turf… BANG!
Sessions – Tuesday & Thursday 6am to 7am
Meeting Point – Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre Reception – 375 Albert Road, Albert Park

MENTONE
The Mentone Machines have a slick operation going. They’re on time, train hard and are on the rise. With some Mentone Grammar students mixing it up with the likes of “Lightening Quick Stocky Stockdale”, these guys are set to get some great results in all upcoming races. Well done to Coach Wooly for building a great group.
Sessions – Tuesday & Thursday 6am to 7am
Meeting Point – Mentone Grammar – Gym/Basketball Entry is on Como Parade West, with street parking available

Training This Week
Saturday – Long Run – Kew Boulevard from Richmond – 7am
Tuesday – Speed Work – MSAC, Melbourne High School & Mentone Grammar 6am
A combination of 250m, 400m, 500m and 1km repeats. Get down there and surprise yourself at how quick you can run!
Thursday – Interval Session – MSAC, Melbourne High School & Mentone Grammar 6am
You know we love to mix this session up, so you’ll need to come down for the surprise. You can be sure it will be a 6-8km endurance session, with varied speeds and recovery times.
Ok, this episode was kinda epic. But it’s because we have a sensational group, slowly expanding and making noticeable waves on the Melbourne (and now Perth) running scene. With “The Bull” being worn around Australia, the US, UK, NZ, France, Norway, South Africa, Malaysia and even at the Jerusalem Marathon by our wonderful Israeli friends today – the whole world is being exposed to our little movement, embracing the spirit of RunLikeCrazy!!
