2011 and beyond – 3 phases to RunLikeCrazy Awesomeness!!

A lot of people have been wondering why I didn’t post anything since the end of 2010.. It was nothing personal, just about completely burned myself out by the end of the year, so it has taken a lot of time to re-energise and get myself to re-engage… With you, with life and of course, with running!

I’m in New York City now, sitting in a cafe called Think Coffee next to NYU…pretty good coffee chain! I’ve had a few months to work out what I’m doing with myself, post 52 marathons in 52 weeks.. It’s harder than you’d think to stay 100% motivated and feel like I’m ready to continue the rise!

Three things have risen to the top of my list of things to do in 2011:

1. RunLikeCrazy The Book

2. RunLikeCrazy Motivational Speaking

3. RunLikeCrazy TV

The are all pretty RAD things, I’ll admit, but all of them will take a significant amount of “work” (it’s not really work if you love it though, right??) and at the very least a splash of Tristan Miller’s special hot sauce – “Determined To The Bone”!

(Ha!..love it..)

Phase 1 – The Book:

I did a deal with Penguin Books! I was lucky enough to speak to a few very reputable publishers, but Penguin remained the most promising and an association with them gives the book the most chance of overall international success. I am contracted to finish the manuscript by June 31st, but the book itself won’t hit the shelves until early 2012.. It seems this is just the way things play out in the publishing world, so hopefully you’ll all still be interested in my story when it makes it to your local bookstore, or Kindle or whatever…

The cool thing is, I got a little advance, so I have enough money to live on for a few months.. That’s pretty great, isn’t it?! Even better, I’ve started writing the book and I can already tell it’s going to be an absolute RIPPER of a read, so stay tuned for more news.

Phase 2 – Motivational Speaking:

Ha! I still can’t believe I’m the guy on stage talking about how great you can be, if you just take the time to dream big and lay out a plan for success.. I swear, I have seen countless amazing speakers in my time and now I have the extraordinary opportunity to share my story with you all when I’m hired for speaking engagements.. And people LOVE IT!! I get so much amazing feedback every time I give a speech and I’m beginning to actually feel comfortable on stage, so my talks are taking on a whole new level of engagement.

I’ve signed up with ICMI Speaker’s Bureau, so if you have a corporate function and you need your people to be jumping out of their seats with excitement, then please call:

Phase 3 – RunLikeCrazy TV:

This is probably the most exciting part of my ongoing project.. The idea, in a nutshell, is: 10 BIG races, 10 AMAZING places, 10 AWESOME episodes!

The plan is to take two new people to race with me in different parts of the world, tackling courses with various degrees of difficulty. A few of the races being considered are listed below:

  1. April Marathon Des Sables – 250km across the Sahara Desert. Considered the toughest foot race in the world, it is a 6 day stage race
  2. August – Inca Trail Marathon – 45km race at altitude, finishing in the hill top ruins of Machu Picchu, Peru
  3. September The Spartathlon – known to break the some of the world’s best ultra runners, this 246km race is attempted within 36 hours and usually only half the competitors complete the task
  4. OctoberLe Grand Raid – a hell raising French race 163km over the mountainous volcanic island of Reunion (64 hour limit)
  5. December – Everest Marathon – 42km at the highest marathon in the world. So high you need 2 weeks to acclimatise..

I’m currently heading to Marrakech, then into the desert to meet up with old mate, Scotty Nathan, ahead of tackling the Marathon Des Sables. This is rightfully considered one of the hardest foot races in the world. Footage from this race will be collated to create a pilot or presentation piece, to encourage sponsors to become partners of the series. If you are a company or you know a company that may be interested in supporting this ridiculously awesome undertaking, then please let me know:

So… things are looking pretty good, right?!   I agree… Couldn’t have done it without you. I will continue to Champion the People, if you continue believing in me..

Yours in Consistent Running RADitude,

The T-Bone!

  1. You certainly are an inspiration – spotted you when I was doing the St Kilda Triathlon a few weeks back and of course did albert Park in December – can you add that to your to do list – make Albert Park an annual event! Best atmosphere I’ve run in.

I shall certainly look out for your motivational speaking – I need all the motivation I can get. I am embarking on serious three discipline training and hope in two years to be able to complete an Ironman….surely something you’ve considered.

Don’t tell me you’re not a swimmer – no-one is. But if it crosses your mind and becomes a challenge you fancy – I attend a swim squad in Sandringham with John Van Wisse and I tell you this man can help anyone swim. So keep Ironman in your mind…….and keep running like crazy!

  2. Tristan, this is great stuff buddy. Am so happy for you. You’ve not just earned it, but created testimony for the human endurance. Awesome stuff brother. I’ll be one of the first to jump on the book (literally) when it’s out :-) You’re a rockstar dude, keep hitting it on all those ones. See you around. All the best!

  3. What sensational news :) I will be WAITING and waiting for the book and buying it for all my friends. I didn’t get to come to the Albert park marathon so we never met but I’m one of your many internet fans wishing you another brilliant year.

  4. This is awesome!
