The end is nigh… RunLikeCrazy Marathon News!

The end is nigh… RunLikeCrazy Marathon News!

It’s official! Finally! We have just got approvals for the RunLikeCrazy Marathon to go ahead. This is a huge win for a variety of reasons and I have some very special people to thank for making it a reality..

Firstly though, Parks Victoria will not allow us to run on New Year’s Eve.. I probably should have let you all know this was such a battle some time ago, but as with everything this year, I have remained hopeful that the world would give me exactly what I wanted. Once again, the world has delivered exactly what I needed instead..

It was a big ask to get a sanctioned run up for New Year’s Eve. I was hoping if I leaned on a few of the right people, it may happen, but there is a lot of crazy stuff already in place for the 31st and this is a headache that Parks Victoria refused to deal with.

Instead we were able to come to a compromise.. When I say we, I’m principally talking about Koya Marney and Bec Sherwill, who have been working through the plans to make this happen. Koya particularly has worked tirelessly to push through the barriers and red tape to help make this happen. They knew that the NYE possibility was slim, so Koya met with the Parks people again last week and came to an agreement to accommodate the race on the 27th of December instead.

I know, it’s not New Year’s but it’s damn close. I know, it’s also very close to Christmas and you may now not be able to make it, but I will have to leave you to decide on how your plans could change. I have been so blessed this year, so to ask anyone to change their plans just to come and run with me on the 27th is beyond even my hopes and dreams. I know you’re all looking forward to eating a lot at Christmas and by jingoes, so am I!

The race details are basically this:

Date – 27th December, 2010
Start time – 7am (approx)
Finish time – 1pm
Where – Albert Park Lake, Melbourne (Victoria, Australia)
Distance – 42.2km, 21.1km, 10km

Here are a list of very big positives around this race:

  1. It’s a basic 5km loop, so supporters can come and watch the whole event, rather than just see the runners go past once.
  2. Easier to plan entertainment and refueling stations.
  3. I will be able to run with people of all distances, not just the marathoners.
  4. The date is the Boxing Day public holiday in Australia, so you don’t need to take a day off work!
  5. Many people would have been away for the New Year’s holidays = MORE RUNNERS!
  6. It will allow me to do one race in Australia, ticking off all 7 continents in a single year!
  7. It is still the 52nd week of the year, so I have held true to my promise of 52 marathons in 52 weeks.
  8. We can get a venue for the after-party, whereas it was very difficult on the 31st.

There are many more, but I will save a few to tell you about as we get closer. The fact is, I am going to fulfill my dream to run all over the world and end my mission at home. That this is even a reality now has me jumping for joy, so I hope it is just as exciting for you.

More details will soon come to hand, along with the site link to register for the run..

This is a MASSIVE win for RunLikeCrazy people. Please rejoice with me and start training your butts off. I want you to join me in one of the greatest running celebrations of the year, along with the awesome post race party later that night.

I’m excited… I’m even pretty emotional. I’m going to get there. I’m going to do it. I’m not going to stop until I run with you all to the very end on the 27th of December. In fact, I’ll make this promise to you right now – if you come and run with me in Melbourne, I will run until the last person has finished. There is a 6 hour limit, so that should accommodate everyone. I will run for the full 6 hours if that is necessary, as long as you come and be a part of one of the greatest moments of my life…

I now have a tear in my eye.. I’m listening to the song below..

Thanks Koya… I wish I could hug you. Thanks Bec. Thanks for everyone else that is making this happen and continuing to inspire so many people to pull their shoes on and start to run. You are pulling me through this.. You are making my world the most magical dream..

13 to go.. I love you all.

Your boy in Berlin.. The Bone.
